Autograph letter signed : Calverley Hotel, Tunbridge Wells, to W.H. Harrison, 1852 May 31.

Thanking him for information about the Lady of Venice who lives beyond her income. He does not doubt that she appealed to Effie who appealed to John to ask him to be security for her. He has recommended what he would do himself were he exceeding his income with hope that he could live under it in a few years: he would let his house and live in lodgings. Momentarily, some acquaintances would drop him, but they would return when he returned to living in his usual style. Mr. Bensley's loss of votes was his own fault. Mrs. Ruskin was ready to support him but was given to understand that he did not wish the votes. He has sent Mr. Harrison's amusing letter to his son.
